Contemporary artist Mark Maritato's painting, "Vortex of Hell," depicts the doomed stand of the 5th New York Zouaves at the battle of Second Bull Run, August 30, 1862. In the foreground, Companies K and C battle alongside the Regimental Color Guard. Captain Cleveland Winslow oversees his regiment from horseback, as Captain Wilbur Lewis is shot dead from his mount.
